Porsche 911 2.4 S Ölklappe (901)

Sought-after collector's item

The 2.4-liter engine, offering increased power and torque

The 1972 Porsche 911 2.4 with the oil flap is a special model in Porsche’s history. This model transitioned from the earlier 2.2-liter engines to a more powerful 2.4-liter engine, offering increased power and torque.

This model’s most distinctive and notable feature is the so-called «oil flap» on the right side of the vehicle, located behind the door hinge. Porsche introduced this oil flap to simplify the process of topping up the engine oil. However, this design element was only found in the 1972 model year, as it confused customers – many mistook the oil flap for the fuel cap and accidentally filled it with gasoline. Due to this issue, the oil flap was removed in the next model year, 1973.

The Porsche 911 2.4 with oil flap is now a sought-after collector’s item, not least because of its uniqueness and the fact that it was only produced for one year. It embodies the transition from the first generation 911 to the following years› more powerful and sophisticated models.
